Collaborative Research Networks

COSOLA multidisciplinary, collaborative research networks engage in innovative and application research to find optimal sustainable solutions to complex real-world problems, emphasizing analysis and understanding of critical socio-technical systemswhich effectiveness and reliability are keys for continued economic and social development.

Research Initiatives

  • Complex systems may be broadly categorized into natural and engineered. Particular classes of the latter are large-scale, critical infrastructures which quality and reliability is fundamental to stimulate sustainable socio-economic development, support continuous expansion of the scientific and technological frontiers over time, and reduce risks to national security.

  • Education as a system is extremely complex. There are many factors that affect both teachers and students, some are well studied and others we are just discovering. To truly better Education we must begin to address its complexity. MACILE is COSOLA's effort to use data-driven, complexity research to design methods of training, teaching and curriculum.

Past Initiatives

  • Databases for Development (DAforDEV) is a network of distributed decision-support and research-support data systems for cost-effective, reliable, and easier access to development information. DAforDEV is designed to be a comprehensive global data source for development.

  • PR-VNets are hierarchical networks of interdisciplinary, heterogeneous and distributed components, encompassing asynchronous decision-making and adaptive behavior.

  • NONGOSO is an action network within COSOLA designed to assist small and medium size development NGOs in addressing complex operational problems.
